Observation of the Starburst Galaxy NGC 2146
We present six monitoring observations of the starburst galaxy NGC 2146 using the Chandra X-ray Observatory. We have detected 67 point sources in the 8.7×8.7 field of view of the ACIS-S detector. Six of these sources were Ultra-Luminous X-ray Sources, the brightest of which has a luminosity of 5× 10 ergs s. One of the source, with a luminosity of ∼ 1× 10 ergs s, is coincident with the dynamical...
متن کاملObservations of the starburst galaxy NGC 2146
NGC 2146 is a peculiar spiral galaxy which is currently undergoing a major burst of star formation and is immersed in a extended H I structure that has morphological and kinematical resemblence to a strong tidal interaction. This paper reports aperture synthesis observations carried out in the 21cm line with the Very Large Array (VLA) of two fields positioned to optimally cover the H I streams ...
متن کاملXMM - Newton observations of the diffuse X - ray emission in the starburst galaxy NGC 253 ⋆
Aims. We present a study of the diffuse X-ray emission in the halo and the disc of the starburst galaxy NGC 253. Methods. After removing point-like sources, we analysed XMM-Newton images, hardness ratio maps and spectra from several regions in the halo and the disc. We introduce a method to produce vignetting corrected images from the EPIC pn data, and we developed a procedure that allows a cor...
متن کاملAtomic and molecular gas in the starburst galaxy NGC 4945 ? , ? ?
Spatial and kinematical correlations between the H i and 12CO(2−1) emission of the southern spiral galaxy NGC4945 are studied with a common angular resolution of ∼ 23′′ (corresponding to 750 pc at D = 6.7 Mpc) and a velocity resolution of ∼7 kms−1. The 1.4 GHz continuum emission is also observed. The H i kinematics yield a galaxy mass of ∼ 1.4× 10 M within radius R=380′′, with molecular and neu...
متن کاملMolecular Superbubbles and Outflows from the Starburst Galaxy NGC 2146
We present results from a deep (1σ = 5.7 mJy beam per 20.8 km s velocity channel) CO(1-0) interferometric observation of the central 60 region of the nearby edge-on starburst galaxy NGC 2146 observed with the Nobeyama Millimeter Array (NMA). Two diffuse expanding molecular superbubbles and one molecular outflow are successfully detected. One molecular superbubble, with a size of ∼ 1 kpc and an ...
